![]() Video: Serato has a (for pay) video plugin. Serato Scratch has very basic 1-to-1 mapping available with nothing in the way of options and if you want to use Itch - serato's controller-based software, you won't be able to map any 3rd party devices at all.įX: Traktor has the edge in quality and mapping although Serato's internal effects are a little underrated IMO - as a hip hop guy, it's probably not going to be that much of an issue. Traktor will charge you for major upgrades and has a very annoying licensing system requiring some work to get licenses transferred from computer to computer.Ĭustomization: Traktor has a much more robust set of customization options from layout customizing to a much more complex set of midi controls and mapping options. Pricing: Serato is more expensive generally but that's evened out by the fact that you never have to pay for updates again and the software is technically free to download on any computer - you just won't be able to perform on it until a serato device is connected. Sound quality - most give the edge to Traktor, but if you get the newer boxes and/or mixers like the SL2, S元, SL4 or the 61, 62, or 68, the sound is pretty close with both being 24-bit audio - if you grab an older box or mixer like the SL1 or 57, then Traktor has it beat in audio quality. Stability is pretty even money these days with Traktor getting more stable than previous iterations and serato unfortunately getting less stable - used to be Serato was the go-to program for stability. Serato offers the Bridge which allows you to essentially control Ableton within the Serato program which is really powerful but also takes a lot of time to learn and setup and requires that you own a copy of ableton. You can manually keep thing in time if you want (I have done routines, manually keeping 4+ decks in sync) but a lot of people don't really want to do that amount of work. You can do it in both, but only Traktor offers beatsyncing of the sampler which makes things easier. Like launching discrete clips and samples - building remixes from scratch beyond blending 2 tracks. So I'm leaning towards Traktor, but price is somewhat an issue, and I think I can find used serato boxes for cheaper on ebay.Īny thoughts/info/links are appreciated. Also I'd like to be able to dj without turntables if possible when I don't feel like lugging them around, is this even possible with SSL? I'd like to utilize effects which I have heard that Traktor has more effects. So my question is, should I get Traktor or Serato? I've heard that ssl is better for hip-hop while traktor is better suited for house music, but I play both. it isn't reliable enough for scratching, (sticker drift) and sometimes it will take a couple seconds just to recognize that I'm moving the control vinyl. got the newer version of Torq but it just doesn't cut it. Now I want to play pretty much everything. I started out strictly mixing hip-hop but branched out. ![]() Originally learned on vinyl and eventually moved to Torq because it was the cheapest digital vinyl system (DVS). So I'm trying to get back in the game after 5 year hiatus. I hate to rehash this old argument but I'm really at a crossroads here.
